"I've been staring at this screen trying to think of something sensible to say about my old travelling mate, Doris and just keep thinking of how much I will miss her. I don't know why we were such good friends, but we were from the very first time we met all those years ago. We had some great times together, great trips, lots of laughs and really crazy times together. I'm just so glad I was able to come see her last year even if she did make me drive on that damn beltway. It is hard to think of 'my other home' without her. Thank you for calling me, Carol. I had not checked my email for a few days so wasn't aware she was in hospital. Will you please put a small bunch of flowers on the coffin for me from her Aussie travelling mate with love. All her Aussie friends send their love and best wishes. My thoughts will be with you all on Saturday. I only wish I could be there to carry her suitcase one last time.
