"To all of you I extend my deepest sympathy. Hearing of your mom's passing took me back to the many years that her house was one of the places that our group of friends spent a lot of time at growing up. She welcomed us and made us all feel at home. Even though it has been a long while since I've seen her - she has always had a special place in my heart and memories. I can't think back of being at Nancy's house without thinking of your mom too and she always made you laugh. Know she is always with you and is your special angel when you need her. Love and prayers to you."

"Butch, Nancy & Carol, Deep deep saddnes is the best description of our feelings at this moment. All my memories of your mom are happy, upbeat, generous, caring and positive. The happines of knowing she and Uncle Nace are now together in heaven strengthens our faith and softens our saddness. We all know her as the family Matriarch. I'm sure she's gathering family together on a big sunny cloud already, not to mention Uncle Rowland has another soul to hug."

"Carol, Butch & Nancy, My heart is heavy for what you must be going through right now. Your Mom had such a wonderful personality, she was quite the character, just like your Dad and will be missed immensely, just like him. The world has truly lost two wonderful people, but they made their mark on many, many people and have an awesome heritage in you three and your families. I'm sorry I won't be able to attend the service, but know my thoughts and prayers are with you."

"Carol, Nancy and Butch, I did not know your mother, but Aunt Grace would always talk about her when reminiscing about Eastern High School and the reunions. She had to be a great lady to raise such wonderful children. You will miss her greatly, but you will always have your memories. She will be with you always in your hearts. She is with Nace now in a wonderful place. God bless you and your families."

"Nancy, Carol and Butch, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I have many great memories of your Mom (and your Dad too) during my teenage years in Compton. Your Mom always welcomed me and the rest of Nancy's many friends(the entire church youth group and then some) at her home. I remember her contagious laugh and great sense of humor. She really knew how to relate to us during our formative years and we loved hanging out at the Mattingly's house. "

"I've been staring at this screen trying to think of something sensible to say about my old travelling mate, Doris and just keep thinking of how much I will miss her. I don't know why we were such good friends, but we were from the very first time we met all those years ago. We had some great times together, great trips, lots of laughs and really crazy times together. I'm just so glad I was able to come see her last year even if she did make me drive on that damn beltway. It is hard to think of 'my other home' without her. Thank you for calling me, Carol. I had not checked my email for a few days so wasn't aware she was in hospital. Will you please put a small bunch of flowers on the coffin for me from her Aussie travelling mate with love. All her Aussie friends send their love and best wishes. My thoughts will be with you all on Saturday. I only wish I could be there to carry her suitcase one last time. Bye for now Love Lynn "

"To the Mattingly Family: My deepest sympathy to the entire family. When I was living in St. Mary's County, I sold Doris & Nace's home for them, and it was such a pleasure working with them. Mrs. Jones made several quilts for them. They were 2 great people. Doris will be missed and mourned in the neighborhood. Skip and I have known them for a long, long time, and we are so sorry that we will be unable to attend any of the services for Doris. I love her name. May God bless the Mattingly family. My great, great grandmother was a Mattingly. Love Doris & Skip Jones"

"Me Maw~ (AKA) "Granny Got Game" We are so sadden by your passing, Our hearts are weighing heavy right now. I will miss how your smiling face would light up when I came to see you, hearing your stories from the years past and your general quick whit. The Boys will miss playing a good ol' fashion game of pitch with you & Jay will miss the rivalry you both had on Redskins vs Dallas. He would laugh every time you would call in the middle of the games. I am grateful for the time I had with you and even more grateful for the love and support you gave endlessly to us both. Thank you for the talks and compassion you gave to so many in your time. I know you are in a better place but selfishly we want those "close to us" here. Rest now and know we love you with all our hearts and we will miss you immensely!! Love Always, Annie, Jay, Daniel and Nicholas"
