A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Schukraft officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD.

Visitation:

 

Viewing/Visitation will be held on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home.

 

Lloyd Raymond Harris, 97, died peacefully August 12, 2008 at the St. Mary’s Nursing Center. Mr. Harris was a longtime resident of St. Mary’s County. He was born in Gallatin, MO on June 13, 1911 to the late Howard May Harris and Frankie Lee Jackson. He married his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Catherine “Sis” Nelson at the Washington Cathedral in Washington DC on September 2, 1939. She preceded him in death in 1998. He was also preceded in death in 1998 by his beloved sister Margaret Harris. Mr. Harris served in the United States Army as an Assistant Chaplain. Following his army service he was employed in Washington, DC for the Federal Government for many years before retiring. He then worked in the tax department for the State of Maryland and retired in 1971. During his retirement he and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing and buying new cars. Ray loved life and most of all he enjoyed helping others and expecting nothing in return. He was devoted in the care of his wife and sister until their death. The family will receive friends in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM with a funeral service to follow at 10:00 AM officiated by Rev. Keith Schukraft. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be: Frank Nelson, Donnie Bowles, Fred Nelson, Harry Nelson, Jr., Michael Russell and Roy Copsey. Contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 415 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-4101.
